Public lecture on the topic “The Messiah Revealed: Apocalypses, Visions, and Inspired Exegesis” (Mt 1:18-2:23) by Dr. Greg Thellman.

At the first public lecture last Monday, our vice dean and lecturer, Dr. Gregory S. Thellman, introduced us to his study of the Gospel of Matthew through its genealogy, which, as he notes, is one of the most exciting passages in the Bible.

Yesterday, we continued with the topic “The Messiah Revealed: Apocalypses, Visions, and Inspired Exegesis” (Mt 1:18-2:23), reflecting on how God is visible even in this text.

Dr. Thellman reminded us that, as the angel of the Lord, the messenger clearly reveals God’s message to Joseph regarding the conception, naming, and redemptive purpose of the child. Matthew, as the narrator, gives further explanation of this revelation as the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy: “‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name (καλέσουσιν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ) Immanuel’, which means God with us.”

We continue this fascinating journey next Monday. Join us!
