Twelve works by Osijek and Valpovo artist Željka Fuderer Levak, along with video materials showcasing her working technique, were presented yesterday in our university library.
In front of more than sixty guests, the exhibition was opened by Judita Paljević Kraljik, Head of the Institute for Christian Music and Worship.
“‘Bloom’—the leitmotif of Željka’s work—is a central biblical concept best expressed in the word shalom, which means wholeness, integrity, fellowship and community, justice, and well-being. It points to a deep connection with God and with one another,” said Judita.
Continuing the reflection, Julijana Tešija, philosopher and exhibition promoter, described the artist and her work with these words: “Željka embodies everything her paintings express—joy for life, honesty, strength, authenticity, love, connection with nature and with other living beings… Conceptually pure and technically masterful, these vividly colorful paintings are ambient interventions in and of themselves. Her female figures are placed at the center of the canvas—solid presences that transcend their given frame and extend outward, embracing the space around them. In this environment—one open to the public, dedicated to reading, prayer, and fellowship—Željka’s blooming women dance around the altar, a beautiful wooden sculpture by artist Liviu Mocan.”
Željka recalled her studies and the profound influence of her professor, Ivan Ladislav Galeta, who left a lasting mark on her and generations of students at the Academy of Arts. The audience engaged in a warm and humorous conversation with the artist, accompanied by music from Roko Bunčić.
The exhibition is open until the end of September, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Cvjetkova 32 (parking available).
