Book promotion “Suprised by hope”

Published: May 7, 2025

Yesterday, our library hosted a book promotion event for Surprised by Hope by the renowned Christian author N. T. Wright.

The event opened with a speech by the Dean of the college, Dr. Dalibor Kraljik, who emphasized the importance of hope in the times we live in. “This book gives us a diagnosis of our condition, guides us toward theology—or how to think about it—and offers us directions for action,” said Dr. Kraljik.

Dr. Dragutin Matak, a lecturer at the Adventist Theological College in Maruševec, the translator of the book, and the person who initiated its translation, provided a broader overview of the book and the author’s intent. “The need to translate such a book arose during the COVID-19 pandemic, when people were concerned about the future, and Wright offers answers. The author speaks of a new hope given by God—one that is alive and an active practice: it leads us to act on behalf of others and makes our world more beautiful, as it points us to Christ’s love and resurrection. It is a hope that excites, encourages, transforms, and takes action, because hope is Jesus Christ,” emphasized Dr. Matak.

The discussion was moderated by Adam Vuk, a representative of Školska knjiga Zagreb, and the event began with a welcome address by our head librarian, Matej Sakač.
